Week 1 Challenge Question 14
-
I'm a bit confused about this problem, which is listed below. In this problem, it introduces 2 characters: the bartender and John. However, later it references "Bill", who was not mentioned in the question, or even previously in other questions. Also, the problem is worded in a way which would make the reader think that John would want to pay less. However, the answer is higher than the originally said amount. For this reason, I think the price of the sandwiches should be 146 cents, 1 cent lower than the price specified in the solution. This means that my answer would be 1176.
I feel like this problem should be edited and reworded to prevent such unnecessary confusions.
The question is listed below:
"Cowboy John went into a bar and asked the bartender for a $3 bottle of rum and
6 sandwiches, the price of which he did not know. The bartender demanded from him $11.80, and in response, John pulled out a revolver, guessing that the bartender was trying to cheat him. The bartender apologized for his mistake and corrected the price. What is the nearest possible number of CENTS (to 1180 cents) that Bill's purchase could have been? (Your answer should be the number only, without units.)"
